Volunteer Sound Operator


Volunteer Opportunity


Responsible for the individual services that require basic sound operation within our standard ‘house’ setup. This role requires a very basic understanding of sound systems and is ideal for someone looking to build their skills and learn more.

Before services you will be required to ensure all mics in use are charged, liaising with vergers and ministry team to complete a basic sound check and levels are being received. During services you will maintain audio levels are suitable for in the Cathedral itself, as well as liaising with the Volunteer Vision Operator that a suitable feed of audio is being transmitted to the broadcasting system. 

Key Area of Responsibility 

  • Check microphones and sound systems before a service 

  • Maintain audio levels during services 

  • Mute/unmute mics during services by following the order of service 

  • Play any audio planned for services via sound system CD player or auxiliary input such as a phone 

  • After services ensure all microphones are charging and ready for the following service, you may also be required to ensure microphone head pieces have been adequality cleaned for Covid-19 safety.
