Volunteer Opportunity

Shop Assistants are key members of the Cathedral Team who make our visitors experiences memorable as they browse for gifts and keepsakes in our Cathedral Shop.

During Cathedral opening hours and when the shop is open for special events, Shop Assistants will welcome customers in the shop, engage with them if they need help, advise them about the merchandise and process sales through the easy to use electronic point of sale system (EPoS).

The aim is to ensure that visitors especially take home a memory of their time in the Cathedral and also that everyone knows that their purchases support its work and mission.  In addition, it would be helpful and greatly valued for sales assistants to provide as much support to the shop manager as they feel able to give with processing online orders, receiving deliveries, attractively re-stocking the shelves and overall ensuring that the shop runs efficiently.

Training in all aspects of the role will be given but most important is enthusiasm, a willingness to promote our merchandise and engage with people so they experience a high standard of friendly customer service both in person and over the phone.

Key responsibilities…

  • Required to complete training to learn how to operate the EPoS system and other aspects of managing the shop.

  • Possess knowledge about the stock, advise customers in the shop and over the phone and process sales.

  • Help with deliveries, stock display, pricing, stock taking and overall ensuring the shop and stock are tidy, clean and secure.

  • Help with packaging orders for click and collect and mail order.
