Casting Call: "Curiosities of the Cathedral Library" Immersive Theatre Piece

We are seeking talented actors to bring the captivating characters of "Curiosities of the Cathedral Library" to life in an immersive theatre experience set within Portsmouth Cathedral.

This unique production will invite audiences to explore the cathedral after dark, solving clues and unravelling mysteries. If you are passionate about immersive theatre and enjoy engaging with audiences, we encourage you to audition for the following roles:

The Librarian

  • Playing Age: 50s to 70s

  • Must have good improvisation skills

  • Personality: Wise, authoritative, slightly intimidating, with an air of mystery

  • The Librarian is the keeper of the Cathedral Library's secrets. They possess vast knowledge and hold the key to the immersive experience. The role requires strong stage presence, the ability to command attention, and a compelling delivery of dialogue.

The Librarian's Apprentice

  • Playing Age: 20s to 30s

  • Must have good improvisation skills

  • Personality: Enthusiastic, eager to learn, slightly bumbling, but well-meaning

  • The Librarian's Apprentice is a key guide for the audience, providing assistance and hints throughout the immersive experience. This character serves as a friendly and relatable presence, engaging with the audience and helping them navigate the mysteries within the cathedral. The role requires excellent improvisational skills, the ability to interact with audience members, and a natural warmth.

Audition Requirements

  • Prepare a 1-2 minute monologue of your choice that showcases your ability to embody the desired character traits.

  • Be prepared for potential improvisation exercises to demonstrate your interactive skills.

  • Familiarity with immersive theatre and the ability to create a believable and immersive character experience will be highly regarded.

Important Information

  • Rehearsals will be held in Portsmouth, with a flexible schedule to accommodate the availability of the selected actors.

  • Although there will be a script and storyline to follow, actors will be required to improvise, ensuring audience enjoyment while also managing pacing alongside the stage manager.

  • Performances will take place during the evening hours in Portsmouth Cathedral.

  • This is a paid opportunity, and rates will be discussed during the casting process.
