Professor Bryn Hughes
Bryn has spent over 35 years in government science and technology, mainly for the Ministry of Defence, working on defence and security issues. He has held several senior roles within the Government, including Director S&T Capability, MOD, a senior technical secondment to FCDO, and technical advice to Cabinet Office on certain policy developments.
His recent roles have been as Technical Director for the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), and finally as its Head of Profession for Science and Engineering. He worked on closer collaboration between Public Sector Research Laboratories (PSREs), and supported national programmes funded through the research Councils. He currently has advisory roles both within Public and Private sector. He is a Fellow of the IET and BCS and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2020. He holds a visiting chair at Cranfield University in Defence and Security, and was elected a Trustee and member of Chapter at Portsmouth Cathedral in 2025.
