Portsmouth 100: A Weekend of Music for the City's Centenary
The Cathedral Choir is pleased to play a full role in celebrating the city's centenary.
One hundred years ago, Portsmouth was granted city status. This May, we're helping to mark that milestone in the best way we know how, with music.
Portsmouth 100 is a weekend of celebratory events bringing together some of the city's finest musicians, choirs, and ensembles to mark a century of Portsmouth as a city. And we're delighted that Portsmouth Cathedral is right at the heart of it.
Friday 8 May, 6pm — Vespers at St John's Cathedral The weekend opens with an act of worship as the Cathedral Choir sings Vespers at St John's Cathedral, a moment of stillness and beauty to begin the celebrations.
Friday 8 May, 7:30pm — Evening Organ Concert with Ian Tracey The evening continues with a recital from Ian Tracey, organist titulaire at Liverpool Cathedral and one of Britain's most celebrated organists. An unmissable evening for lovers of the instrument.
Saturday 9 May, 7:30pm — Portsmouth 100 Concert, Portsmouth Guildhall The centenary weekend reaches its high point on Saturday evening. Portsmouth Cathedral Choir joins Portsmouth Choral Union, the Band of HM Royal Marines, the Solent Symphony Orchestra, and numerous local choral groups for a grand concert at the Guildhall — a joyful, city-wide celebration of 100 years.
Whether you come for the music, the occasion, or simply to be part of something special, we'd love to see you there.
