Family Fun at Portsmouth Cathedral – Brass Rubbings Trail & More
Looking for an inexpensive and creative way to spend part of Half Term with the family? Join us at Portsmouth Cathedral for our Brass Rubbings Trail, a relaxed and engaging activity that’s perfect for visitors of all ages. Entry to the Cathedral is free, and all you need to take part is a Brass Rubbing Pack, available for a small fee from the Cathedral Shop.
Explore the Cathedral at your own pace as you find the brass rubbing points around the building and capture the designs on paper. Each brass has its own character and story, so it’s a great way to notice details you might otherwise miss while enjoying a hands‑on activity together. The activity encourages observation, creativity and a sense of discovery, making it ideal for a morning or afternoon out.
Brass Rubbing Packs can be purchased from the Cathedral Shop, open Monday to Saturday 10.30am to 3.30pm, and Sundays 12.00pm to 3.00pm. No need to book ahead, just pop in during opening hours, pick up your pack and start your trail.
Also available in the Cathedral Shop is the Portsmouth Cathedral Children’s Activity Book, a fun‑filled and educational guide designed especially for children and families. Packed with puzzles, word searches, colouring pages and other interactive content, it offers a fresh and engaging way for young visitors to explore the cathedral's history while having fun along the way.
While you’re here, make time to explore the My vill of Portsmouth exhibition in the welcome area and exhibition space. The exhibition brings the early history of Portsmouth to life with engaging displays and interactive touchscreens that help visitors dive deeper into how the settlement grew and changed over time. Both the exhibition and entry to the cathedral are completely free, making them a brilliant addition to your visit.
Whether you’re local or visiting the city, visiting the cathedral offers a fun and affordable way to enjoy history and creativity during Half Term - we look forward to welcoming you!
