Portsmouth Cathedral Notices Sunday 23rd June 2019
This week we have welcomed hundreds of people to the Cathedral. They have come to hear and experience music of many styles, but most specifically music in the context of worship or at the very least music framed and enhanced by our architectural space and its special nature as a house of prayer.
We especially welcome today members of the Federation of Old Chorister Associations representing Cathedral music from across the nation. Many of them are joining with our choir to sing the Baritones part in the Widor Messe Solennelle.
On Monday we are half way to Christmas, and this reminds us that another Choir Year is nearly over. Trinity Sunday was properly celebrated here last week, which means we are firmly into a liturgical round with very few major milestones until after the Summer. The end of summer term means we bid a fond farewell to this year’s Choral Scholars and Organ Scholar; Anna, Patrick, James, Ethan, Oliver, Peter and James. We thank them and wish them all well in their next stage of life whether it be new university, continuation at university or new roles in new places. In due course we shall welcome Sam, Karol, Jeremy, Ben, Tom, Yiannis and Chris and a new year will begin.
