Portsmouth Cathedral Notices Sunday 9th December 2018

Highlights

It’s only the Second Sunday of Advent, but already our choirs have sung four Carol Services including a service for The Hampshire and IoW Emergency Services and The Second Sea Lord’s Carol Service on board HMS Victory.

Next week will see the Cathedral Choir depart for a tour to Antwerp and Ypres in Belgium where we shall sing concerts and services as well as the Last Post Ceremony at The Menin Gate next Sunday evening. These tours are hugely important to the life of the choir in terms of morale and musical aspiration. But more importantly they enable real and enduring links to Christian friends across the continent for choristers and adults alike, and they showcase the unique Anglican choral tradition to Europe, where the musical profile of choirs is very different.

When we return, we shall get back to the business of supporting Cathedral services alongside Cantate and Consort. The numbers of people attending Christmas Services has grown five-fold in the last twenty years, and this year we are adding a fourth Carol Service on Christmas Eve at 6.30pm. Please see the full published list of Christmas Services.
