Portsmouth Cathedral Notices Sunday 2nd December 2018

This time of year can be a bit of a struggle with darkness. In order to function normally, we have to fight our instinct to hibernate. However, I wish to highlight the importance of rest and reflection, particularly during Advent. We are tasked with waiting and watching in the darkness for the light, thinking about the impact of God breaking through into human history and being born in a manger.

When first thrown into darkness, you can't see anything but after a while your eyes adjust and you can see much more detail than you think. It is a very busy time of year, but try to put aside some time for the darkness.

Here's an acrostic about Advent:

Advent means waiting

Darkness to light
