Clergy and members of the Portsmouth Cathedral staff hit the pavement of Portsmouth later this month for the 2017 Simply Health Great South Run in support of local charities.
The annual 10 mile run sees over 30,000 participants each year in Portsmouth, and the course takes runners past some of the most celebrated sites and locations across the city. All runners taking part will see and run past Portsmouth Cathedral in the first mile of the course.
This year, runners from the cathedral will be raising money in support of some local charities. The Dean of Portsmouth, the Very Reverend David Brindley, Canon Chancellor Peter Leonard, the Reverend Dawn Banting, Lay Canon Debbie Sutton, and parishioners Mr Mark Pittaway and Georgie Poole will all be running for The EC Roberts Centre. The EC Roberts Centre is a unique child focused charity in Portsmouth providing services across the city of Portsmouth, as well as Havant, Gosport, Southampton, and Aldershot. The EC Roberts Centre offers a range of services offering support and assistance to families in addressing their situation of homelessness or dealing with the issues of relationship breakdown.
Portsmouth Cathedral Marketing Coordinator John Bolt will be running again this year for The Elizabeth Foundation. The Elizabeth Foundation helps families, not only in Portsmouth and the surrounding areas, but those who travel from nine counties so their deaf children can learn to listen and speak. Last September, 84 babies and pre-school children benefited from specialist programmes, none of which would be possible without community support.
The cathedral runners have set up webpages for those wishing to donate and support these charities through their running efforts. You can support and donate through the links here:
