Portsmouth Cathedral Notices Sunday 19th November 2017

Highlights

As you enter the Cathedral from the South door you cannot help but notice the impressive installation of over 400 fish in two arches of the North Ambulatory. This is a collaboration between Claystation and the Cathedral as part of our annual theme for 2017 “All Things Bright & Beautiful” which has been focused on ecology and the environment. Each fish has been hand made by a member of the Portsmouth community and has an individual prayer or wish on it. They are each precious and special in their own right but together I am sure you will agree they make an impressive sight and represent beautifully the way that both individuals and their thoughts, prayers and wishes come together in this sacred space.

At Evensong this evening we have two of the priests in our diocese being made Honorary Canons by Bishop Christopher. Honorary Canons are priests appointed by the Bishop and are part of the College of Canons of the Cathedral who ensure a strong link between the Cathedral and parishes around the diocese. It is good to celebrate with them and their families and parish communities.

Both of these ‘highlights’ help to grow our Cathedral community and of course with the baptism this morning of Canon Anthony and Georgianna’s third child, John, and next week of John and Sacha’s fourth child, Helena, we grow the number of disciples as well! Many congratulations to them and to their friends and families who will be celebrating with them.
All reasons to celebrate the life and ministry of Portsmouth Cathedral!

The Revd Canon Peter Leonard
Canon Chancellor

NEWS
'Make a Fish~Make a Wish' The finished installation is now on display in the Nave. These unique shoals of over four hundred handmade clay fish were created by visitors, and members of the Cathedral community over a three week period. The project, funded by Awards for All, was led by Ginny Topp of Claystation, supported by Sharon Court our annual theme curator, and installed by Gavin & Sam from The Makers Guild. We are grateful for their help in bringing the vision for this work to life!
